Happy International Women’s Day 2021!
That past year has been fraught with challenges and unprecedented change. But the silver lining has been the focus on ensuring everyone has a voice. And can be heard. There is an emphasis on equality and inclusivity that has taken root, built momentum, and seems certain to chart a course to a more diverse and inclusive future.
Within the IT industry, there is a great deal of work to be done and opportunities to be had. Women hold less than a quarter of all positions, but as nascent and evolving technologies, like UiPath, AWS, and Cyber Security create brand new opportunities, there has never been a better combination of social impetus and career paths available for women to break-in, establish themselves as capable, quality candidates, and prove that they belong in an industry long dominated by men.
This isn’t to disparage the contributions and efforts of the innovative men who have developed technological tools and resources to improve business and daily life. But it’s time that women comprise a larger percentage of the IT workforce as the career tracts, earning potential, and relative stability is attractive to everyone with the skills and expertise regardless of gender identity.
Women in Technology is a non-profit professional association based in the DC Metropolitan area. They maintain a huge database of prospective opportunities for women beginning or advancing their IT careers to search and apply. They also provide resources to connect women to networking groups, educational resources, and career search tools.
Here at Intellectual Point, our operations team is comprised largely of women. We are proud to commit to creating an inclusive, diverse, and equal workplace. We know our strength resides in our varied experiences, backgrounds, and abilities. And we are also committed to contributing to the creation and evolution of opportunities for women of all abilities and backgrounds through our “excellence through education” philosophy.
So we hope you join us in celebrating the contributions of women throughout history, across all industries, that have paved the way to a future where true equity and equality is no longer a vision, but our shared reality.
